Born in Arantangi, Tamil Nadu, Abdul Hameed’s journey is a story of perseverance, vision, and community leadership. He began his culinary career in Mumbai, working with Chef Air Flight Catering, before moving to the prestigious Hilton Bahrain as a pastry chef. He later joined Carnival Cruise Line, and in 1998, during a cruise stop in the Cayman Islands, he discovered the place he would soon call home. An opportunity at The Westin Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach Resort & Spa marked the beginning of his successful journey in Cayman.
Over the years, he has grown into a respected restaurateur, hotelier, and entrepreneur. He is the owner of Southern Spice and The Treat Restaurant, both of which reflect his passion for hospitality and authentic cuisine.
Abdul Hameed also had the privilege of working closely with Dr. Mani, a pioneering and highly respected figure in the Indian community, until his passing. Dr. Mani’s guidance and dedication to community service greatly influenced Abdul Hameed’s own commitment to unity and service.
As President of the Indian Cayman Community, Abdul Hameed is dedicated to fostering unity, strengthening connections, and encouraging meaningful service among Indians across the islands. The mission of the Indian Cayman Community under his leadership is to bring all Indians together, support one another in times of need, celebrate and preserve Indian culture, and contribute positively to the wider Cayman community. Through cultural events, charitable initiatives, and dedicated outreach—especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, when food distribution and repatriation efforts were organized—the community continues to stand for compassion, unity, and collective progress
